The International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), requires that seafarers should complete Basic Safety Training which includes basic fire fighting, elementary first aid, personal survival techniques, and personal safety and social responsibility. According to STCW, seafarers are required to be renew these courses every 5 years.
STCW Code in Part A contains mandatory provisions with the minimum standards required in order for a seafarer, based on his/her rank, to be able to get on a vessel.
STCW stands for Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers. STCW is an International Convention adopted in 1978 by Conference at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London.
