Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing the way ships are run. Recent reports say AI is now an important tool that helps make work at sea safer and more efficient. While traditional seafaring skills are still very important, seafarers also need to learn how AI works, where it is used on board, and how to use it safely

The course aims to provide a basic understanding of AI and to show you how to use it by writing clear prompts for AI tools like Large Language Models (LLMs). It also covers important topics like data privacy and the ethical use of AI

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

1. Understand key AI concepts and their application in the maritime context.
2. Comprehend how to use AI tools by creating clear prompts/instructions for common shipboard tasks
3. Identify guidelines that seafarers can follow to protect themselves in the age of AI.
