Ship-to-ship (STS) transfer operations involve securing two vessels alongside each other to facilitate various activities.

In the context of bulk carriers, STS operations such as lightering, where excess cargo is transferred to smaller vessels, and bunkering, where fuel is transferred, are crucial for the vessel’s commercial operations.
